The Power of the Personal Narrative: Finding Strength in Our Stories Take Aways

  • Using writing as a tool for self-reflection and creative exploration
  • Overcoming internal blocks through freewriting
Writing Prompts:

  1. The Turning Point – Describe a moment in your life when everything changed. How did it shape who you are today?
  2. If My Thoughts Had a Voice – Write a conversation between yourself and a lingering thought. What does it want you to know?
  3. 10 Minutes of Flow – Set a timer and write without stopping. Don’t censor or edit—just let the words flow.
  4. The First Line Challenge – Write three different opening lines for a story or personal essay. Which one excites you the most?
  5. A Memory in Motion – Recall and describe a vivid experience using all five senses—sights, sounds, smells, textures, and tastes. As you bring it to life on the page, reflect on how revisiting this memory makes you feel.
  6. Summarize Your Story in One Sentence – What would it be if you had to pitch your story or book in a single compelling sentence?
